Wireless state not remembered after using hardware switch

#1 Post by wayrad » Wed Jun 21, 2006 7:40 am

I've been setting up a new Z60m (2529EAU), and I find that if I turn my wireless radio off in the Fn-F5 panel, the setting is not remembered if the hardware switch for the wireless is turned off and back on. In other words, the wireless radio is turned on by the hardware switch no matter how I left it set. The Bluetooth radio setting is remembered OK. Also, wireless radio setting is preserved when the machine is powered off and back on.

I get a popup window saying "each wireless radio has returned to the last known power state" and that power states can be modified with the Fn-F5 window, so clearly this setting should be remembered . In fact, it WAS remembered on my 2529GBU, which Lenovo very kindly replaced after a visit to my local repair subcontractor left it with numerous hardware problems. Both machines had the same CPU, but the current one has a Centrino sticker and the other said Intel Inside - I'm thinking that I must have had an IBM wireless card before? The current one is listed as Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG in Device Manager, with Intel driver 9.0.2.31. I am using ThinkVantage Access Connections version 4.01.

Can anyone shed any light on this situation?

Edited to add: I doublechecked my paperwork, and the machine on which this feature worked properly did indeed have the IBM wireless card. I should also mention that I am getting multiple (2-4) audible notifications when I use the hardware switch. About once in 20 tries, after a minute or so I will get another couple of audible notifications and the wireless will turn off again.
