Gig ethernet probs on T40

I am dealing with some issues on a friends T40 with the gig ethernet. I have restored the t40 to its factory condition after trying to deal with the problem berfore. The problem is that 99% of the time when I plug an ethernet cable into the laptop it locks windows up. If I plug it in pre boot it locks up after a few seconds of loading the desktop. If i let it sit at the logon screen it will lock up there. The few times it has not locked up I have received an IP via dhcp but have been unable to browse the net. This has been tried with multiple cables, networks and routers/servers. The other more minor issue is that (with a good battery) windows says it is charging but the percent charge never goes up

with all that you say, here, it begins to look like you have a hardware issue..

1. have you tries swapping the wifi card..?

2. will this T40 run while connected to the AC adapter without the battery..?

3. have you run a memory test..? have you tried reconfiguering the existing memory..? (assuming that there are two memory sodimm's in use)

Thanks for the reply. I have not tried a different wifi card, I am having the probs with the wired ethernet.
The T40 will run off the ac adapter w/o the battery no problem. I can also charge the battery in another T40 put it in this one and run off of it(3-4 hrs batt life).
I have not tried different memory yet(only 1 sodimm in this system) I did run the diagnostics and of course everything checked out fine. I did just check the warranty(friend told me it was out). It appers to be in warranty....maybe I will send it in unless you guys have some other ideas.

Well....got off the phone with lenovo support...my box should be at my door tomorrow...thanks for all the help
