Im a jerk, accidently poured water into my thinkpad

#1 Post by holberg19 » Wed Jun 21, 2006 9:56 am

Hi guys

Need your advise on this one. Im sitting with my T41 at the table, and accidently I tip over my bottle of water and a fair amount hits the keyboard.

The screen on the T41 turns into black and a click sound is heard. I hurry and turn off the laptop and turns it upside down.

Atm its laying on a towel drying upside down.

Is there any protection on the T41 in those cases as mentioned above?

What do I do now? My plan is the following: I wait until the water is completely dry and try to turn it on later today.

Take off the keyboard and palmrest, remove all memory and your WiFi card, check for any standing water and remove it with an absorbent material, remove the memory slot door from the bottom of the machine and check for water.

Use a hair dryer on LOW setting to thoroughly dry the unit or let it sit naked in the sun for a day or so.

You can try to start the machine while stripped bare after it dries by BOOTing into the BIOS.

I hold little hope that this will have a happy ending given what occurred at the time of the spill, e.g. a black display and a click sound.

No, you are not a jerk. :)
But you would be a jerk if you poured water on MY THINKPAD!

Hey, I wish you well. That's a scary event you had happen there. Hopefully it was only a scare.

Lucky it is just plain water. If you spilled beer or some sweet stuffs on your TP then you will not get so lucky.

BTW: Nice to hear that your TP is up and running. Good.

Your TP:--> Please don\'t do this to me again!
