Z61M on order, anyone want to share their impressions?

#1 Post by jbrasher » Wed Jun 21, 2006 2:55 pm

I've got 2 weeks until my Z61M ships so naturally I'm pining :-)

Anyone have any comments on theirs?
Any quirks?

While mine is a Z60m I can say that I'm really happy with it! Build quality is fantastic, display is bright and clear, keyboard is solid (as usual), runs fast, stable, quiet and cool. This is my first widescreen ThinkPad and I am really enjoying the extra display area for multiple windows and great viewing area on the web.

Quirks? The only one I've noticed is the guy behind the keyboard...

I'm quite sure you will really be happy you purchased yours... :D

Z61M on order, anyone want to share their impressions?

My impressions are taking a decidedly downward turn

I've received an email notice that my Z61M due the ship 7/4/06 is now due to ship 7/29/06.

Is this normal for Lenovo?

Yes, this is perfectly normal. The date may fluxuate while you are waiting and it has been my (repeated) experience that the due date is relatively meaningless. So the key, is to try and relax with it and go with the flow. Easier said than done....

Just got my Z60T last Friday for home use and so far I am very impressed. The widescreen is a bit weird at first (have only used T20/T40/T42/X31 in the past).

My current home laptop is a T40 and work laptops are an X31 and T42.

I like the fact the Z60T has the built in card reader - less to carry around.
Not so happy that they have changed the PSU - I like to have a spare so I can charge both in the lounge and study.

The keyboard feels different to my T40/T42 and X31 - but still good quality. They have used the spare space at the sides of the keyboard wisely with decent speakers. Gonna be great for watching DVDs when travelling.

I have mixed feelings about the brushed metallic lid - I think it looks really great. BUT I used to own a NEC S900 a while back with metal cover and it got pretty badly scratched up.

The inclusion of a Firewire port is great for transferring files to my desktop.

It appears that the DVDRW drive may be able to write to DVD RAM disks to - havent absolutely confirmed this.

Seems like 15.4" wildscreen is too big for me.

I have been enjoying with my Z60t for around 2 months. Some functions in Z60t are very useful, like the firewire port & SD card reader. I did burn couples of DVDs with the DVDRW drive, looks good.

I have had my Z61m for a few weeks now and I am extremely pleased with it. It was actually delivered 1.5 wks early! The quality of the materials and overall construction is far superior than that which I've experienced on any other machine (desktops, laptops, pda's). Afterall, this is my first ThinkPad. The machine is solid, fast and suprisingly portable. Unless you have back problems, are of a small stature or have a ridiculously long walking commute, this machine is portable. I'm in Boston and my daily commute involves about a mile of walking and a train ride. I put the notebook in a cheap Targus sleeve, put the sleeve into a messenger bag and it has never been a problem. The machine runs cool and quiet at all times. If I'm using a graphics intensive application for exteded periods of time I will notice that bottom of the machine get warm, not hot, and the fans emitt very little noise. There are other aspects worthy of commnent so if you have any specfic questions let me know.

Well, it's here :D and I LIKE it.

I'm in the process of learning the ins-in-outs and setting my environment up.

I hope I get better at swiping my fingers, it sometimes takes awhile.

Thanks for the help,

John
