A30 2652 44u 1 Ghz shows only to be 733 Mhz?!?!!?
I just purchased an A30 that was supposed to be a 1.13 Ghz. When I check the System Info, and when I ran BELARC it showed the CPU to be a 733 Mhz. I have no reason to believe the previous owner switched anything, but wanted something over 1Ghz, and since I thought the slowest A30 was a 933 Mhz, Iwant to make sure I am just not getting false info from the audit. Anyone have any helpful advice? Thx Chris

Make sure the laptop is plugged in when first turned on. With the Intel Speedstep decreasing the processor speed when running on battery...sometimes these numbers will be locked in on any dialog screens if it starts up in this mode. You're computer is still running at 1.13 GHz when plugged in, but the dialog boxes may not update dynamically after the first power on state.
*EDIT*
Sure enough, doing a quick google search shows that SpeedStep steps processors that run from 933MHz - 1.13 GHz down to 733 MHz when in saver mode. I can almost guarantee speedstep is correctly adjusting itself...it just seems that somewhere in the BIOS the 733 gets stuck in there so any diag software shows that number instead

power manager lets you select the CPU speed, and you can use something like MobileMeter to keep an eye on the current speed and temperatures. there are BIOS settings but i think power manager could do the trick.
when i bought my r40, it was listed so inaccurately- he said it was 1.2ghz, but in fact speedstep was doing its thing when he benchmarked it, and it is in fact a 2ghz. not getting into the other listing errors cause who cares!

Thanks for the info. It was all correct. I loaded the updated from IBM and installed the power manager and batter maximizer and adjusted the settings and VIOLA its now a 1.13 GHz....of course I have read about upgrading that too <grin>

i was all happy to have a 2ghz laptop- now i end up keeping it at 1.2ghz unless the cpu really needs more. i dont like heating my room with the laptop. so in the future if i were to purchase another, i would go for around 1ghz with my needs.
