570 CPU temp

#1 Post by dsigma6 » Fri Jun 23, 2006 7:15 am

I'm settling in with my "new" 570, and was running windows update. It was at the screen with the green status bar checking for updates. It apparently hung up on that screen and left the CPU at 100%. I watched the temp on this baby p2 366 steady in the upper 60s and finally reaching 75C, before settling back to 70. I looked into the range for this CPU and 75 seems to be the max.

Anyone with knowledge on this processor think it was just because of the 100% load freeze, or could this thing possibly be just out of shape? I have a few days return policy on it, but other than that, the loose hinges, and the white spots/2 red pixels, im ok with it!

I would say if you have a floppy drive for your 570 then download and run the PC Doctor diagnostics and stick it into the System Load mode. Program to create a boot floppy for the 570 version of PC Doc is at:

I have had my Thinkpads and Gateway laptops "hang" due to some program consuming 100% of the CPU cycles (WinXP and Win2K). Killing the offending process was the way I cured it. Mostly likely this was your problem but a long burn-in run with the System Load test hopefully will say if your hardware is okay.
