latest model for win2K install?
latest model for win2K install?
Trying to set up a think pad for use in the financial markets.
I need win2K, because of the brokerage software I use.
What is the latest and or "best" model(s) in which win2K can be easily installed? Sorry this question is so vague, but I was not able to find a thread with this kind of info.
Another thing I need, is the ability to use multiple monitors (the more the better) My thought is to either use a docking station with a 4-monitor pci card like the matrox g200, or a pcmcia based multi-monitor card, or pcmcia based multi-monitor adapter (basically a separate enclosure with a pci slot or two and power supply, that uses a pcmcia card to connect the pci cards to the laptop)
So can anyone help me out? it would be greatly appreciated!
Edward

You can run it in Windows 2000 compatibility mode in Windows XP; that suffices for all but the most complex of programs (and by complex I mean *very* complex and dependant on quirks of a single OS only ; and if a program is that complex, it usually has compatilibility with XP as well as being quite expensive. I have only seen the compatibility mode mess up when the program was older than a decade.pdxforex wrote:The software will run on XP, but Win2K is recomended.
Thanks for your help.

Is there something very peculiar about this software such that it won't run under XP?
Either a T4X or T60 will suit your needs just fine. I would go with the 4-monitor Matrox plus a dock instead of the PCMCIA based one alone.

Both the T4X Series Thinkpads and the T60 are compatible with their own docking systems; although they are full-height and half-length if I remember correctly. RonS has already posted alot about such Thinkpad, Dock, and Card combos in the T60 forums.
