I ran it fine on my t30 P4M, don't think you need a whole lot to run osx, 1.3Ghz with a 200mhz front side bus is plenty.

It is specific to the instruction set....

All the online guides state something about SSE2 and SSE3. I'm just trying to find out if my system runs on any of these two, because they seem to be a prerequisite.

There is a link to a tool in this forum or somewhere to run on your system to find out. Look back a ways in the osx threads.

It's alright. The novelty worn off pretty quickly for me and I am back to full time Windows XP - just can't let go all the favourite programs in Windows.

I am mostly satisfied with Windows...I just liked the ability to do it being available to me.

Think an 850Mhz P3 with 500+MB RAM and a Voodoo 5 5500 card could run it? (ie a souped up 660x)

I don't think so..from what I learned it's not so much the speed that is the issue as so much the chipset architecture. Has to be P4 minimum I believe.

its not the name either. The processor has to support the SSE2 and/or the SSE3 instruction sets. At the time i am writing this, 10.4.8 new kernel discs only support SSE3, so stay away from those. Additionally, make sure to install any SSE2 patches that are in the customize menu of the install dvd.
