Running batteryless a21m at full CPU speed?

#1 Post by asadniazi » Sun Jun 25, 2006 8:33 pm

My thinkpad a21m (P-III, 800MHz, 521MB ram, 40 GB 5400 HDD, W2K) runs on ac power most of the time, which seriously degrades the battery life. I am unable to find any way of changing the charging threshold so that the battery will begin charging only below, say, 20%.

So I want to run the laptop without its battery, just on ac. However, the cpu speed is automatically throttled down to 650MHz without the battery. Disabling the power options from automatic to max performance in the BIOS makes no difference. Is there any way this can be acheived, or do I have to choose between performance and battery life?

i use thinkpad power manager for my r40, even though its not designed for it. it gives you the option to change cpu to lowest, low, adaptive or high. there are settings for both AC and battery.

i dont know if it will work with your model though.
