Thinkvantage Software Installer vs. Software Update 2.0???
What's the difference between the Thinkvantage Software Installer versus Thinkvantage System Update 2.0?
The descriptions for both software packages sound similar in function...

IMHO Thinkvantage System Update 2.0 just doesn't work as well as Software Installer.henhowc wrote:guess no one knows?

I had to re-install everything from factory condition this weekend and I used System Update first, not only did it not install the correct drivers, it also got hung up during a BIOS download/update - I re-booted (with fingers crossed) after waiting more than 90mins for the process to continue/finish.
Software Installer sailed through the updates.

Yahdie... I agree.
I also reinstalled my system from scratch last week and I first only installed System Update because I had read it should take over for Software Installer. But it didn't take long before I installed Software installer

from the website,Software installer is being replaced by System Update 2.0,but some guys say that System Update 2.0 doesnot works perfect on laptops. why IBM uses System Update 2.0 instead of Software installer ?henhowc wrote:guess no one knows?

Because stuffed shirts do not use the products they propose and sell. If they did, Software Update would have been buried permanently years ago. ... Found this old thread while looking for differences between Software Installer and System Update. Just wanted to say I've been using both recently on a couple of TP's (friend's R51 and own X60s) onto which I reinstalled WinXP from scratch. Well, both worked more or less OK. Funnily enough, each found stuff to install the other didn't find. I like the fact System Update tells me what's going on when talking to the server (Software Installer is more secretive, use has no idea of what's happening in the background). So will Software Installer eventually be dumped for System Update?

I just updated Software Installer without checking here ... d'oh!
The version I upped to will not complete a download of a single package without logging out to kill it. Lenovo's software development of IBM utilities seems to be on a slide dooooooowwwnhill.

I am thinking of simply doing a HDD swap between a T43 & T42 etc.
Now, what would be better here.. Software Installer or System Update.
I noticed this strong BIAS against System Update in couple of threads. Is System Update stable / dependable now?
Which version is usable / stable for both the apps?
