Where to buy the cable for watching DVD's on my television?

#1 Post by BLKLBL » Mon Jun 26, 2006 7:06 am

I have a T23 and a port replicator. And I'd like to buy the cable that lets me hook my laptop up to my TV but Im not sure what the cable is called or where to buy it. Can someone lend me a hand with how to hook my laptop up to my television? Thx!! Really appreciate it :]

Does anyone have a link to a site where I can buy one?

Any retail outlet in Toronto that deals in high-end audio and video will have the S-Video cable you need.

Thank you! Really appreciate it.

I thought I was gonna need a different cable actually. Didnt know it was the S-Video one..That's simple enough.

What is the DVI out port for? Is that just for an extra monitor?

Thx!

for that matter, you can buy a more than adequate s-video cable at wal mart or target or something like that. If your just watching dvd's on a standard definition tv, than that is more than ok. And Im not sure about that particular model, but DVI output is also a video output so if you have a high definition tv, or even maybe a newer digital cable box or satellite receiver you should be able to connect to the cable box and pass through to the tv. DVI cables are sort of expensive, and if you dont have a HIGH definition tv than you would more or less be wasting your money on a DVI cable because they are much more expensive than an S-video. It depends on your appreciation for video quality and what kind of television you have or projector. Any questions you can pm me or reply to this.

My Television Set does not have S-Video port -- only the single yellow video RCA port.

Does our ThinkPads have RCA video-out port?

unfortunately no they do not have rca out or in. What you can do to overcome that is go to a computer store and get an S-video breakout cable. It breaks out to rca and you can patch that straight to your tv or vcr or cable box. I got a cheap cable that goes straight from S-video to rca female with my media center pc, but i dont think it works all that hot. The image is pretty pixelated through that cheaper straight adapter. When you go there ask for an S-video break out cable. If they dont have one try doing an ebay search or get one from microcenter.com.

you need an adapter like this one from microcenter. DO NOT get one of those breakout cables from ebay made by belkin. They are good cables, but not what your looking for. Here is the link from microcenter. You can buy them online or try going to wal mart or best buy maybe. Check A/V stores around you first though cuz you might find them for the same price.

Ok I've got a cable now and Im trying to setup everything using this link

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... R-58625#s3

Mine applies to ->

Setup instructions for S3 Graphic Chipset

On step 3 it says "Click the Settings tab.

Note: Clear the check box "Extend my Windows Desktop onto this monitor" on display 2 if ticked then click Apply."

But I cant see that option anywhere. Im using Windows 2000 professional and that looks like XP.

Can you help me complete step 3? Thank you!!! :]

try right clicking on the desktop anywhere and go to properties. And under the settings tab click on the monitor 2 and make sure its enabled. I dont know a whole lot about this part, but there are only a few settings there. I would try hooking up to your tv and go from there while in that properties folder.

If I may jump in here...

I'm having an experience similar to what BLKLBL was having back in late June, trying to send the video from my T22 out the S-video port to a TV, but the instructions and illustrations on Lenovo's sites don't match up to my reality. (Reality can be such a [censored], right?)

Anyway, my machine's a 2648-4EU, and I've gone to http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... R-58625#s3 and followed the instructions up to step 5 where I'm supposed to click on the S3 Display tab, but I don't HAVE one of those!

Although I have found (at a Lenovo site) and installed what I thought were the correct video drivers for my machine (a file called vftpiy2k), I am apparently still missing some S3-related software.

Can anybody help my adjust my reality to Lenovo's pictures?

Thank you very much for your time.
