Atheros cm9 range workaround for T23

I share internet with my neighbor who is 2 floors up from me.My smc(usb)ez-connect in my desktop picks it up just fine while the cm9 (minipci) in my T23 does not have the signal strength to connect.Could be the built in anntena?

I am wondering if I can connect wirelessly to my desktop with my T23 so it too will have internet access.I believe this would make my desktop an access point for my T23,correct?Both adapters are atheros based and the router is a Netgear Wgt624.Please post full instructions if you are able help.

I also have an old dlink 624 rev.b router lying around if that would help.
