Mouse pointer started moving on its own across the screen

Mouse pointer started moving on its own across the screen

#1 Post by cmarti » Wed Jun 28, 2006 6:42 am

My 600x mouse pointer started moving on its own across the screen!!

Does it will be a sofware or hardware problem?

Thanks for the advice. :)

The trackpoint might be going bad, which means that you might have to replace the entire keyboard.

Have you tried going into the setup in windows and tried to recalibrate it?

are you talking about the slow movement that lasts anywhere from 1-5 seconds? or are you saying its completely moving around on its own at will?

It is moving on it's own without touching it. But if you connect an external mouse it stops.

Question for everybody here...when an external mouse is disconnected does it disable the internal?

Thanks..

i wasnt talking about a hack- it was just enable/disable trackpoint when external mouse is plugged in.

Go into the Trackpoint setup utility and set if for "Auto disable" when a mouse is plugged in.

WRT the drifting pointer, it's the Trackpoint recalibrating itself, just let it drift and it will stop after an inch or so.

If it drifts more than that, consider replacing the keyboard as the Trackpoint may be failing.
