R51 Keyboard reverts to different layout

#1 Post by jjnoosh » Wed Jun 28, 2006 4:56 pm

We have an R51 laptop here at work that several times has, for no reason we can see, switched its keyboard layout. The first time we were able to reset it to the 87 key layout using the bios, but at some point the bios was updated and now that option isn't available. At one point we couldn't even login because only the 5 and 6 on the number keys worked. None of the other number keys produced an output, while the letter keys all seemed to work. Now, after reinstalling the OS, we're still in the same boat, although we reset the admin password to blank so at least we can login. But we can't figure how to reset the keyboard layout?

Anyone ever seen this issue? Any suggestions as to how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Try Fn (blue button, bottom left corner),shift, & numlock button at the same time- try it couple of times- restart computer if it doesn't instantly clear to standard keyboard layout- i had this type problem a couple of times with my r51 while on the road- maybe you have the same trouble i was having
