Question before buying a T23.

#1 Post by London1987 » Wed Jun 28, 2006 6:10 pm

Hiya guys, I wonder if you can help me.

After having a butchers at my mates T23 I have decided to go out and get meself one of my own. Now I have seen many on ebay, but there is one question the answer to which I have not found anywhere.

If the machine does not come with the original restore partition or IBM Thinkpad utilities (like that nice little green battrey level indicator on the taskbar), is there anyway of reseting it so it does? I ask this becuase most of the machines I can find do not have either and the ones that do have the smaller 20Gb Hdd which I would need to upgrade.

Anyways, Thanks in advance.

Chris.

Welcome to the forum!!

You can post a WTB ad in the Marketplace here and see if someone can send you copies of the restore/recovery disks for the corresponding model Thinkpad that you buy.

You can also download the various drivers and utilities from the support site, which for a T23 is here:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-57669

Virtually everything that came with machine originally is available except for the DVD player.

Welcome to the Forum.

All of the Thinkpad specific utilities you're looking for can be downloaded and installed at any time.

There's even an automated applet from IBM/Lenovo (ThinkVantage System Update) that will determine which specific model Thinkpad you're using and download and install any missing drivers or software.

Thank you all for your help. I bought my machine yesterday. Very cheap at £190 and is cosmetically perfect except for a slight chip at the rear. I've installed all the software from that site and am very pleased. One thing I was wonderign however - is there actually much difference between the 1.13 and 1.2GHz machines? This one is the 1.2, but I was looking at a number of the slightly lower ones as well. Anyways, thanks again for your anwers and warm welcome.

I've got both and, for standard business/office applications, there isn't much of a difference. There is some difference for processor intensive apps but not enough to be concerned with.
