Problems with my soundcard. X40

I've been having problems using skype for quite a while (both in linux and windows), just starting the [voice]conversation triggers a blipping effect and then ceases to work completely. Now I'm starting to get blips or spikes when playing mp3s, I've experienced this before with bad or corrupt mp3 files, but it just kept going. So I tested with another lappy, and no problems at all.
Then I tested a freshly downloaded videofile (mpeg), and the blipping effect was present even there...

I'm starting to get scared that my soundcard is giving up....

Anyone heard of anything like it?

Try to lower donw the sound volume a little bit. I notice the bad sound quality out of my X41T. But X4 is not designed for sound though.

Have you tried to plug in an headphone? if the phone jack works well, then the speaker is dead.

Yeah, I've tried both. And the "high volume problem" isn't the culprit here either. I've tried so many workaround that I'm sure that it is hardwarebased
