T23 Laptop wont shutdown

#1 Post by BLKLBL » Sun Jul 02, 2006 11:36 am

Im using windows 2000 professional and a T23 Thinkpad laptop. its running fine and everything but it wont shut down or restart. Ctrl alt delete doesnt do anything either..I tried pulling the plug and then i remembered it has a battery lol. This is my first laptop and I just got it a few days ago and I thought that was pretty funny. So now Im at a loss about how I should shut my computer down...Do I just drain the batteries power?

thank you for any help!!!!

Assuming that you can't perform the normal Windows power-off (i.e. click the "Start" button and then "Shut Down..." and that pressing the CTRL-ALT-DEL sequence doesn't bring up the Windows Security screen (where you have choices to shutdown, log off, lock the computer, start up the Task Manager), then I would say your installation of Windows 2000 Pro is hosed. Either that, someone has purposely setup your logon account to deny you those actions.

You should be able to force the laptop off by pressing and holding the power button for at least 6-7 seconds. However, before you do and assuming you still have a browser running, download this hardware manual for useful information about your new toy.

thank you :] holding down the power button worked!! and thanx for the manual as well. I definitely needed one :)

This copy of windows works fine...I just had some trouble restarting the computer this time because I left the laptop on for a few days and everyday I got up I used it pretty heavily.

thx for helping out!!! really appreciate it.
