Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums :)

Have you tried it with the battery out and just the AC line power? Try holding the power button down for 10 seconds, then try to boot it back up again.

Let us know what happens.

:D thanks for welcoming!

ok yes I have tried holding the power button for 10 seconds and it fails to power up, and yes I have tried with the battery out.

question: are any lights supposed to be lit up on the dash where the indicator lights are when just the AC power is plugged in and no battery is in there ?

also, there are 2 compartments on the bottom, one has two ram slots, other one has a wider slot, one of the two ram slots has a chip in it, the other one is empty, the bigger slot in the second compartment is also empty, what is the bigger slot for ? is it possible something is missing that it wont boot up ? it looks like someone might have tampered with my computer when i wasnt there

The larger slot is a Mini-PCI slot that can hold a modem, NIC, or a wireless card.

Have you tried removing everything that you can easily remove from the system (ie. Hard drive, CMOS battery, battery, Optical drive, and all but one stick of ram)

no i havent, i am scared of not being able to remove things too carefully cause i gotta disassemble the screen to take out the rest of the cover for the bottom, any other ideas ? could the ac adaptor possibly not be providing enough current yet reading the correct voltage ?
