2407FPW (1920x1200) on X40 w/Intel Extreme Graphics 2

#1 Post by hilberado » Tue Jul 04, 2006 7:11 pm

Hi,

As the topics indicates, i´m trying to figure out whether or not a Dell 2407FPW in its native resolution will run on my X40 with Intel Extreme Graphics 2 64mb. (the X40 is docked in the X4 ultrabase, if it makes any difference)

Im aware of the problems others at this forum have faced with T42 on Raedon 7500 mobility.

According to IBM
(http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 1#graphics)
- the 1920x1200 is not listed.

According to Intel
http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/eg2/index.htm
- it does not specificly mention 1920x1200.

The X40 user manual cast no furhter light on this, unfortunately.

With all this information not providing me with the information I seek, i wondered if anyone have any knowledge or any experiences in this matter?

Thank you

People did it on X40 before. You need IEGD driver. Search old posts.

Ok thank you Sugo.

I did actually read the "how to get 1920x1200" before posting this, though I thought that the difference in graphics card would matter - I guess not then.

I´ve tried searching old posts, but with no success. I guess I will go ahead and purchase the 24" and see if it works.

Please let me know if you have any success with the wideschreen resulotion on the X40.

I hav a Philips 23" wideschreen with 1920x1200 and have the exact same problem, however I have not yet had time to dig into the matter!

Really hope you have some success!

1920x1200 working on X40!

#5 Post by hilberado » Tue Jul 25, 2006 8:02 am

@ribbe-b

I recieved my 2407 today, and got the native resolution to work after a few hours of troubble shooting.

Basicly I followed what is intructed in: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=
which worked fine.

* First I updated my grapics card driver.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-59866

* It needs to be stressed that it is important that when updating to the IEGD_5_0_WINDOWS driver, do not seek, but point exactly to the ssigd.inf file.

After that my screen went black, though after a reboot it came back up in ----> 1920x1200:-) (all the other WS modes are also availble now)

Good luck

1920*1200 ok but blank screen when undocking!

#6 Post by robbe-b » Mon Jul 31, 2006 9:23 am

I have upgraded my graphics driver to the IEGD driver and it works fine with the external monitor on 1920*1200, and also dual monitor support when docked. However, I only get a blank screen when undocking! I.e. the screen is black on the laptop when no external monitor is connected.

Any one having the same problem?

I also played around with the above instructions to get the widescreen mode for my external monitor.

It was working fine at 1280x768. However, it plays havoc with the dual-screen capabilities. Rebooting, it'll forget which was the primary monitor and which was secondary. Sometimes it would stick all the icons on one, and the task bar on the other.

Sometimes it would stretch the background to a strange shape.

Sometimes it would boot up with the built-in monitor turned off.

When undocked it would screw up the resolution of the built-in monitor, or leave it turned off, or use it fine. Then when docked again, it would - etc etc etc etc

So I uninstalled the "strange" driver, went back to the standard one, and am living with my totally reliable 1024x768. Oh well. It was a fun game :)

I stumbled upon these forums because i bought a Dell 2407WFP last week and I have a Fujitsu S7010 laptop with the same graphics adaptor and I have the same problem as the rest of you guys here!

I have tried using the IEGD driver, but it only works through VGA and that doesn't give me good image quality and has some flickering which is really annoying. I need to be able to use this monitor via DVI and still be able to use the laptop's built in LCD also.

I have tried everything i've read in the threads here regarding this issue and can't find any resolutions. Does anyone have any other suggestions or anything that has worked for them?

Has anyone successfully got the 2407 to run at native resolution of 1920x1200 with Intel Extreme graphics 2 (82852/82855) through DVI and managed to keep the built in LCD working?

One of the other forums i've read said something about an ATI driver than can be used, but since we dont have an ATI graphics card its pretty useless.

I've got one more week to get it working before i return the monitor under Dell's 15 day total satisfaction guarantee, its a nice monitor and its absolutely fantastic for watching DVD's, it'll be a shame to lose it but I can't stand having it running at 1600x1200 stretched to the wide format!

I'm wondering if there has been any more luck with this with newer drivers, etc. I'd like to use a Dell 2407FPW on my Thinkpad X40.

If it isn't easy to use the full 1920x1200 resolution, what happens when you use this monitor at a lower resolution? What's the next step down in resolution and how does it look? (Does it display in the correct proportions, etc.?)

You should only run the monitor at 1920x1200. Anything lower will look blurry, even if the proportions are correct.

I got my 1280x768 resolution working fine on my X41.

I posted about it here : http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 97#p526697
