X40 - Low power in the left USB port

#1 Post by seneca » Thu Jul 06, 2006 12:21 am

I just wanted to tell you about a wierd issue with the left usb port.
I have the LaCie CD/DVDRW+-DL external drive that can be powered from the usb-port ie. One Cable or through a power supply.

I tried to boot up a cd using only one cable to the cdrom. When I used the left side usb port, it wouldn't start, it just kept grinding on.

When I switched to the right port, it worked flawlessly and spun up immediately.

The reason must be that the left usb port don't deliver enough power. Anyone else noticed this?

Only one of the two regular USB A ports is powered, I believe.

I would have thought so too, but I can run an external 2.5" hdd without problems on that port.
