Running on battery - How to run full speed?

#1 Post by BikerMike » Thu Jul 06, 2006 1:29 am

I just put Halo on my T30, and it runs great when I'm plugged into AC. But when I try to run on battery - verrrrry slooooow. I disabled CPU and PCI bus power management - still slow. Is there some way to keep the clock at full speed on battery?

What operating system are you running? What power scheme? Both of these can affect processor speed. And what exactly did you do to disable CPU and PCI management? You can download either CPU-Z or MobileMeter and see how you system speed changes with different settings.

I'm running XP Pro. I changed the settings through Control Panel/Power Options/Advanced Settings (I can get the same dialog box via Control Panel/Thinkpad Configuration/Power Management/Advanced Settings). The options (for both CPU and PCI speed) are Automatic and Disable.
The Power Scheme is ThinkPad Default - thanks for pointing out that I have different options there (when I saw that, I thought I was looking at a pull-down list of setups that I would have to create and name, not pre-defined ones). I'm going to try High System Performance and see how that works!

FOUND IT! I needed to disable a feature called PowerPlay in the Advanced Screen Settings.
Now Halo rocks! Woohoo!
