RPM speed

#1 Post by lutami » Thu Jul 06, 2006 5:18 am

Found this at a good price.

IBM Travelstar - Model IC25N030ATCS04-0

30 GB -- 4200 rpm

I'm still learning and can't find the posts i read previously about rpm...would this be ok for a T20 or is there a better rpm...30GB is all that's needed.
ThinkPad R51 2887 - Pentium M 715 1.5 GHz - RAM 768MB - HD 160GB - CD-RW / DVD-ROM combo - Mdm - LAN EN, Fast EN, 802.11b, 802.11g - Centrino - Win XP Pro.

4200 will work fine...

5400 RPM is faster...7200 RPM is even faster..

But with the 2 faster RPM's you're talking more $ and usually bigger gig's.. (40 GB and up)...
1 T23 1.13 Mhz.SXGA+..512 RAM..Built in Wireless
1 T23 1.13 Mhz..256 RAM...
1 600e that now a 600x(500Mhz) with 256 RAM
1 600x(500 Mhz) with 327 Ram
1 600x upgraded to 600Mhz with 256 RAM

When looking at the different disk drive speeds you must ask yourself: What application programs are going to be heavily used on this system? If you are talking about web surfing, reading e-mail, and playing a few (simple) games, then 4200rpm is enough. If you plan on running a database application, sorting records, compiling programs, video editing, then 7200rpm is probably too slow :D.
