`Thinkpad T42 Windows Startup Fails

#1 Post by jacobsm » Thu Jul 06, 2006 11:37 am

Just started last night, during bootup the T42 hangs while attempting to detect the embedded security chip (it is enabled). This hang lasts for over ten minutes and eventually another message box pops up that says that a call to windows services failed.

I click ok and attempt to login via cntl/alt/delete, but the system never goes past that point (same message to hit cntl/alt/delete is issued.)

I disabled the security chip and tried again with the same results.

Any ideas?

Service has been disabled

From what you said, I think the needed windows service needed to use the security chip has somehow been disabled. If this is the case it is just a matter of enable it. You somehow need to get to the service.msc program which manages all of the services in windows. Even if you disabled the security chip, it might be another service needed to login to windows. I've never encounted this type of problem before. The only other thing I can think of is a virus has infected the computer.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.
