Increasing usefulness of Fingerprint reader

#1 Post by scsgoal31 » Thu Jul 06, 2006 2:10 pm

So I have my fingerprint software set up to be used at power on and windows log in.

My question is, what's the point of having it in either of these places if all the user has to do at windows logon is to first press Ctrl-Alt-Del to get to the regular window login with password, then press escape when it asks for the fingerprint? At this point the user can just enter the regular windows password and gain entry to Windows.

Is there a way to make it so it's impossible to ever use the standard password? If not, then what's the point? It kind of loses its "security" feature and becomes more of a convenience feature instead.

I think it was more of a convinience feature to ebgin wtih, it makes ti easier to log onto different websites and not ahve to rember different passwords all the time.

When at the screen for the finger print software, click on Settings > Security Mode tab > and change from Convenient mode to Secure mode.

That just takes away the password option for everyone but the adminstrator...which I am since I'm the only user. The administrator would be the ONE account I don't want anyone getting into.

Instead of changing from Secure to Convenient you can try to go to Control Center for Fingerprint software and press the Settings button. Choose System settings and on the Tab "Logon" you should check the box about not to ask for Ctrl+Alt+Delete.

That wasn't what I did since my box isn't checked but if you go to Start and Run... and type
control userpasswords2

then at the Advanced tab you can uncheck the box with having to click Ctrl+Alt+Delete.

I hope it helps you
