defective pixels

#1 Post by swstu » Thu Jul 06, 2006 6:28 pm

I just purchased a new T60 (custom build) and noticed that I keep getting stuck pixels on occasion (especially after the screen turns off from non-use). The pixel in question appears in different places, but mostly near the middle of the screen. Rebooting usually fixes this problem, but the 1 defective pixel usually appears somewhere else nearby on the screen.

I ran the device test on PC Doctor 5 and noticed that the pixel changes color and is stuck to the color whenever I check the screen for different colors (red, green, blue, black, white).

Does anyone know what's going on? Is this considered a stuck/dead/or some other kind of pixel? Can anyone suggest any solutions?

BTW I have a 15 inch IPS monitor and I'm running at 1400x1050 @ 32-bit color depth. I noticed that the thinkpad default is 16-bit color depth so could that be the problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: True to form, I just rebooted and the offending pixel has disappeared and returned to normal operation. Now it's just a matter of waiting until another one appears.

I just got a T60 last week, and this happened to me a few times with in the first 2-3 days, and it hasn't happened since. Maybe the monitor just needs to be broken in? BTW mine is 14in

don't quote me on this, but im sure there is a topic about this somewhere on the forum. i remember reading about a utility that fixes the pixel. something about keeping your mouse pointer over it, and it will go away...search!!

So you dont have to read further...hit the middle button for the eraser thing. In The Task Manager, its called SynTPEnh.exe. Kill that and youll lose scrolling by that method, but fix the pixel.
