T30 1gb of memeory

#1 Post by sundance » Fri Jul 07, 2006 6:18 am

I have one of the T30's with the memory problem (will not recognize 2 512mb banks). IBM will not fix it as it's out of warrantee. What I would like to know is will one of these T30 with this factory defect work OK and recognize a single 1gb memory stick?

Thanks,

Steve

yes. http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/PC2100. the modules don't have to be pc2100, faster ones will also work (without providing faster speed though). do not get ddr2 though, it is incompatible.

note that in my opinion the memory upgrade does not result in performance gain.

A 7200 rpm HD will help a lot in the speed dept, i noticed the biggest performance boost after installing the faster drive as opposed to the 1g of ram.

Even in memory-heavy-load apps, like Photoshop?
It swaps a lot with 512mem, of course 7200rpm speeds it up, but I guess, with 1G it won't need so much swapping..

I bought this Crucial PC2700 1GB Stick from newegg and it works great. About $20 or so more than Ebay prices but you can be assured that the Crucial is quality memory.

FWIW,
