I have a T20 and have wanted to upgrade it but it wasn't until the computer failed to boot. The option to buy another notebook is what triggered the upgrade.
I've read everyone upgrading but WHERE are the parts coming from?
Since I have the T20 apart, I should go ahead to upgrade the systemboard, processor and fan.
Does anyone of spares (working) parts or at least let me know where I can go? I think someone said I can use a T22 board and I'm not sure. But what is the faster processor I can go?
Thanks!

Where do we get our parts?
As the 5th Dimension sings...
Up, up, and eBaaaaaaaaaaay!!!
And to steal a line from Arlo Guthrie..
You can get anything you want, at eBay's Resteraunt...
Thank you, thank you, you've been a wonderful audiance, and I really mean it this time.. I'll be here till next Thursday, try the veal, and remember to tip your waitresses!
Except for memory, which some are getting from Crucial, you can get everything you need for the upgrade on eBay, T22 motherboard, larger hard drive, DVD, battery, but for just a little more, I would search for a working T23 base and go with building a T23.
The T23's better architecture, separate modem and ethernet cards, two USB ports, larger video RAM(16mb), faster bus speed, better processor choices and cooling will improve your performance a lot more than going with a T20 to T21/22 upgrade.
With the T23, you are limited to using just PC133 memory tho, The -23 cant use PC100 SODIMMS, so the memory you have in your T20 could be sold (or swapped here) to get the PC133 memory sticks. The T23 is also a lot more tolerant of lower grade memory than the T20-22 series. Lastly, the -23 mobo will not fit in the T20 case
With the other parts off your T20.. LCD(as long as it's a 14.1"), HD, CDROM(or DVD), you would really need just the T23 base and PC133 memory to complete your upgrade.
I had a T20 that took a 900MHz cpu and a T22 fan(sold it), but if you really want to do just the T21/22 upgrade, I have a 800mhz T21 on hand, 2647-4AU, bare, no memory, that was going to be a frankenpad project sometime..
...PIII 800MHz (256KB), XGA(1024x768), Intel combo, TV out....
just taking up space on my shelf awaiting the knife ... you could save it from a lifetime of horror
Good luck and keep this place bookmarked for any help you need.

Well your right about ebay. I also use a site called pricewatch.com for some items. I got this as a link. It's a refurbished notebook P4
for 534.00. What is yours/everyone's opinion about this?

Looking over what they have, I'd go with the T30 instead of the A31, faster processor twice as big HD.. less $$ unless you wanted the floppy drive instead of a DVD...

Still a lot of $$, you can find as nice a complete T23 for $200+ less on eBay.. Search eBay for a T30 and see what prices come up..
Here's a T30 search link with a lot of small stuff filtered out:
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dl ... chi=&sass=
Here's a 2GHz T30 for $439...
http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-ThinkPad-T30-2- ... dZViewItem
Look around, see whats available, then pick the best, price, warranty, reputation..
... when you want to upgrade, you upgrade in a big way!
