T41: no video on tv-out through svideo?
I have the svideo connected from my T41 to my tv and everything looks fine. I can see what's on my laptop on the Tv. But the problem happens when I try to play a DVD or any type of video. The video shows up on the laptop but nothing on the Tv, it's all black or all purple.
I've tried videolan as well and still no luck. Any suggestions?
thanks in adv.
::edit:: Sorry should have include this earlier on, I have a Radeon 9000

SVideo cable is what comes out of your thinkpad, but make sure your TV has an SVIDEO in as well. If you have a newer mid to high end tv it shouldn't be an issure, but if it is a few years old I would make sure to check.Leon wrote:related question, if I go to radio shack (or similar), what kind of cable do i get to go from T42 to TV?
I think the fix for this is to only let the display work on the TV. You might be able to get this by just changing the display with they fn key and display key or you might have to do this in the display properties or advanced display properties option.pastrami wrote:The video shows up on the laptop but nothing on the Tv, it's all black or all purple
I do not have a T42 yet, but I had the same problem with my old laptop. I think it has something to do with the software not being able to handle dual monitors or the video card can't handle displaying 2 feeds of a dvd. (I could be totally wrong on why it doesn't work
I've tried that ... where the only display is on the TV, the black or purple screen stays there no video. If I hit fn+f7 again, it'll go back to the laptop display and it'll have the movie playing.
I've tried using videolan since I've read that it supports dual monitors. But no luck with that either.
Although, when I hit identify, it shows #1 for the laptop and the tv as well. Is that suppose to happen?

I used to have the same problem, then I played around with the advanced properties:
Goto Display properties (right click on desktop, select properties), select settings, click on advanced. If I remember correctly, 1) select Displays, select TV. AND 2) select Overlay, select Clone mode options, select Same on all.
I'm not sure which of these two settings (or combination thereof) got it to work, I did get it to work after some time.

I've played around with the NTSC and PAL option but still no luck ...
Can you check where the option is, I looked under Hydravision and didn't see anything similar to that ... thanks in adv!Nabeel wrote:There's an option, I think in Hydravision; you select which device to show the video on, of it's in the video properties. I don't remember exactly where, but I used that option when I hooked up an LCD
If you have the ATI Radeon 7500 this thread might help:

Hey Goodbie ... I have a Radeon 9000 same as you, but I do have Hydravision. It came installed already.Goobie wrote:Pastrami, what screencard do you have? Mine has the ATI Radeon 9000, I don't have hydravision. Sorry, don't know then.

I've also checked that thread and I've tried using videolan and they were talking about the 7500 and some of the menus did not apply.

Go to the Display Properties, Advanced, Displays tab. First, if you can get your desktop to appear both on your LCD and TV, you have almost everything set properly. The video card can handle two displays as long as there isn't intense video (like a DVD movie). With intense video, it can only handle showing it on one display at a time.
The way to choose which of the two displays has the video is by selecting between who is the Primary and who is the Secondary source. In the Displays tab, under each display type are two buttons, one looks like a target and the other has two squares. Click the bullet for the TV to set it as primary , and the windows for the LCD to set it as secondary. This should allow the video to be seen on the TV and not the ThinkPad screen.
The picture below shows how to do it but with a second VGA monitor since I don't have a TV in my office. Same idea, though.

Thanks for the screen shot ... but it looks like I have way way less options with the Radeon 9000 ... my drivers are not updated? I checked the ibm website and they say I have the udpate drivers.
