T41 users:can you get 1600x1200 display on external monitor?

For some reason, if set my display to 1600x1200 everything becomes extrememly blurry. When I throttle down to 1280x1024 it's much better, but some of the text is still kinda soft.

The best resolution is 1400x1050, but that doesn't fit on the monitor. It looks great on my laptop as well.

Any suggestions what I can do? Also, is there any way to disable cleartype font?
