A21P Overheating
A21P Overheating
Here is my problem any input would be appreciated. About 2 weeks ago my A21 started shutting down at random, and through process of elimination I figured out it was over heating. I examined the heatsink/fan assembly, and found it was not running. I bought a new one, and It ran well for about a day (luck I guess) and it started shutting down again. After closer examination I found that once I entered my bios pass word for the computer to boot it just shut down. I called IBM and they were well.... less than helpfull, they basically said send it to us, pay us, and we will fix it *sigh*. I then embarked on an adventure in home laptop repair here are the things I have done:
1. new fan/ heatsink
2. updated ALL driver through IBM
3. updated power management
4. changed power managment setting to always on
5.changed power managment setting to minimal power management
6. updated widows 100%
7. used restore point from time I knew the laptop to be working fine
8. checked voltage at fan 3.5v at start 0.0v after post
9. put new thermal grease on all spots that conducted heat.
10. install Hmonitor to help monitor heat 35c on idle 63 at peak usage.
11. checked voltage at power connection point 16v.
I believe thats about it I then fouind this forum and searched and read and got the idea to try some of the things above. My best guess so far is the MB has taken a dump some where on it and decided to look on ebay for a new one this is what I found but the fru # does not match will it work?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1
The descriptin says A21 but like I said the FRU does not match.
Any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated I am a BIG fan of IBM laptops and this one have been all over the world with me and never let me down.

Re: A21P Overheating
i dont see 63c as a reason for the machine to shut down- is that a p3 machine? ive seen all three of my thinkpads up just above 70, even with the fans working.
depending on how much the mobo is, would you consider a post warranty? its $169 for a year.
