Internal WiFi antenna question...

#1 Post by Quattro » Sat Jul 08, 2006 9:19 am

What is the point of the "aux" antenna? I have an Intel 2200ABG mini-pci card, and it seems to function perfectly, even long range, with just the "main" antenna plugged in (full 54mbps). So, what is the purpose of the aux?

Your laptop's radio can support diversity antennas. The "aux" antenna is the connection to the second (diversity) antenna. A radio system with diversity uses two antennas and can automatically switch to the antenna that has the best quality signal. The end result is a system with fewer dead spots as you move around and better quality reception.
