will ibm send out replacement motherboards under warranty?

#1 Post by xkeithx » Sat Jul 08, 2006 2:12 pm

ive been having an on-going problem with my t40- each time i send it in for repair they replace the motherboard and it comes back with a new problem. its been going on for the past 2 months, ive tried telling them i want a new system and they tell me that someone will give me a call back within 72 hours.. but i have yet to recieve a phone call.

anyways- has anyone here been able to get ibm to send the replacement motherboard out and just do the repair yourself, sending the old one back? i know they will do this for hard drives, but what other parts will they send out this way?

the reason i ask is that i feel a technician is doing improper, sloppy work and i would prefer to just do it myself so that it will be fixed once and for all. also i asked them to replace my lcd panel due to dead pixels but i dont believe the work was actually done. will ibm send out a replacement panel and let us do the work ourselves?

I doubt it. Closest they will likely let you do is upgrade to onsite repair service, and have a tech come out and do it in front of you.

The defective pixels on the panel have to meet IBM/Lenovo's implementation of the ISO 13406-2 standard; See, http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4U9P53

If they don't meet the guidelines, the tech won't replace the LCD. The same goes for all other manufacturers.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
