Middle Scroll Button

#1 Post by smvp6459 » Sun Jul 09, 2006 1:09 am

I'm wondering if anyone has heard of people changing the properties of the middle scroll button in Windows XP? I love being able to use it for scrolling, but I miss the ability to click with the middle button (open links in new tabs in Firefox and close said tabs). Anyone figure out a workaround or have any idea of how to do such a thing?

Ok, so the scrolling feature through the Thinkpad driver has some advantages. Is there a way to use it for both scrolling and middle button clicking?

Not that I have seen; either Windows assumes it is a MMB or a generic scrolling device (latter case is such when Windows can't find the UltraNav driver for it) or UltraNav manages it and provides Windows with the data it needs to have it as a native scrolling device...UltraNav does this quite well.

There might be a way to toggle them, but it would, I think, require registry values being modified. I made a post on here awhile ago that demonstrated how Windows needed a special way to be told of how the Trackpoint MMB acts as a true scroller in a registry edit made by IBM and modified on occasion by the UltraNav Wizard/Driver. In that case, it was the use of the scrolling feature locking up an Exceed X Server.

Provided you have a little utility that responds to a keyboard hotkey combination which directs it to switch the utility of it, by changing those values in the registry, from a Scrollable-MMB to a regular, X windows style MMB....That should work. :)

Oh, and please put your location in your profile. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
