X40 display shows a fine "mesh" when moved
I just got two X40's, and the displays seem to be made by ID Tech (based on parts lookup).
Compared to my old thinkpads the new display seems to have much narrower field of view, ie the colors fade when I look at it even slightly off-center.
The second and more annoying thing is that when I keep the machine on my lap or on top of my stomach while lying on bed, I can see a fine mesh appearing to the picture for a short while. This happens when the machine is moved a little bit ie the display moves relative to my eyes. The mesh is in 45 degree angle, ie not horizontal & vertical lines. It's best noticeable in the green start button and on the edges generally.
Has anyone else noticed these? I called IBM and asked them to send me boxes for both of the machines. I'm hoping they'd change the displays to Samsungs.

Yes, sounds like the video circuitry is picking up RF, Time to call big blue?

I sent mine today to the depot with a letter asking them to replace the TFT with a Samsung one. I doubt they'll do anything but it's definitely interesting to see what happens...stinkypete wrote:I'm not too concerned about it. I only notice it when it's on battery. Plus, I just got this X40 and I don't want to get a "refurbished" one in it's place...I got the three year warranty.
