Some observations on my T60 (compared to my other T60's)

#1 Post by jagged » Mon Jul 10, 2006 10:43 am

I just received the T60 (200764U) I ordered weeks ago using the Amex promo and everything is working great so far.

Just some observations...

1)Its good that it came with my preferred keyboard (NMB).

2) It seems that the SXGA+ screen (Hydis) is brighter by 2 bars than my older T60's 14" XGA screen (Samsung). Samsung color contrast however seem slightly better. My eyes will need a few days to adjust to SXGA+ from XGA but I like the extra screen real estate.

3) 200764U came with the Verizon Wireless EVDO although it didn't say on the specs when I ordered it. What system does it use? Is it 3G? Since I live outside the US, can I still use this using a local carrier here (if ever the service is available) ?

4) T2500 with 2GB RAM is noticably faster than my other T60 (T2400 w/ 1.5GB RAM). I will try using SuperPi to compare later. No problems with 2GB RAM (1GB x 2) setup so far.

5) I'm not sure if this is because computer is new but I notice the plastic corner where I rest my wrist is kinda sharp. Its the corner below the trackpad buttons. I'm tempted to sand that corner a bit hehe but I think I will just use the computer for awhile. Hopefully, that sharp corner will flatten a bit.
T60 (200764U) - T2500, 14" SXGA+, 2GB RAM, 100GB, ATI X1400, DVDRW, BT, 3yr IWS
T60 (20074UH) - T2400, 14" XGA, 1.5GB RAM, 80GB, ATI X1300, DVDRW, BT, 3yr IWS
Z60t (2513MHU) - Pentium M 1.73, 14" WXGA, 1GB RAM, 60GB HD, DVD/CDRW, 3yr IWS

EVDO is the "other" 3G data service that competes with HSPDA. EVDO is usd by CDMA carriers (eaisest migration path for them) while HSDPA is used by the GSM carriers (easiest migration path for them). EVDO might work for you but the odds are much better that the technology of choice is GSM-based
