Small crack in case
Small crack in case
I just noticed a hairline crack in my case, running from the top of the hard drive slot to the bottom of the right arrow key. My laptop is a T43, just about a year old. It doesn't look too serious, but I'm just wondering if it's something I should worry about or look into repairing before it gets worse, if at all.
Edit: sorry, should have done a search before posting this. Seems like obtaining/installing a replacement part shouldn't be too hard.

Hi,
If your laptop is under warranty, call IBM. The keyboard bezel (if that's where the crack is, which it sounds it is) is customer replaceable, so they would just send you a replacement bezel which you can install yourself (easy task following the hardware maintenance manual).
If you are not under warranty and it bugs you to have the crack, just buy a replacement part and put it in your Thinkpad. Beware of third party parts suppliers which claim that the parts are new, as this is not always the case. If the part is not too expensive I recommend you buy directly from IBM/Lenovo.

This may sound silly; but you're sure its not the space between the two panels? Because the top panel and the palmrest-panel meet and make a line, running from the top of the ultrabay slot to the bottom of the right arrow key.

Thanks. I'm going to do just that.Thinkpaddict wrote:Hi,

It's hard to imagine the crack.

Hi folks
I too have this crack in the "palmrest" in my T41.
It's about 12 mm long, under the right arrow key.
I have only seen cracks in the 14" models.
Anyone have a crack in their 15" T4x?
I phoned IBM about this and they are sending me a replacement "palm rest",
They claimed that this part is not under warranty.
(The part is like 30$ or something.)
