Unable to Undock T42p from Dock II w/ Quadro NVS 280

#1 Post by stevenkb » Wed Jul 12, 2006 1:09 pm

I'm truly hoping that someone on these forums can help me take this last step to getting my setup exactly how I've wanted it...

I'm running into a problem where I can't undock my T42p from the Dock II because the video card I added to the dock is being used. When I attempt to undock (either by pressing the button on the docking station or through the Windows Start menu), I receive the message:
"You cannot eject your computer because one of the devices in the docking station, 'NVIDIA Multiview', cannot be stopped right now. Try closing all applications and ejecting the computer again later."

Here's my setup:
T42p
Dock II with a PNY Quadro NVS 280 card connected to two IBM ThinkVision 19" LCD monitors

What I'm trying to accomplish is being able to switch between using the NVIDIA card to output to my two LCD monitors when docked but also allow my laptop to be undocked and revert back to using the LCD screen on the fly. Also, I'd like to be able to put the laptop in the dock when it's on and have it switch back from the laptop's display to the external displays.

I've tried disabling the NVIDIA drivers when I want to undock, but, of course Windows then wants to reboot which defeats the purpose anyway.
Also, I've tried using "Hardware Profiles", but that doesn't seem to do what I want.
Since it's initially complaining about Multiview, I did disable the NVIDIA Multiview feature (which lets you stretch the desktop across multiple monitors), but then when I try to undock, I get virtually the same error message, only this time it says the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 280 card can't be stopped.

So, I've tried what makes logical sense to me. I'm hoping that some of the gurus that frequent this forum can help me with this one last problem.

Thanks in advance,
Steven
