I have a T40 connected to a Dock II. An older model floppy drive (for the Thinkpad 600 series) is connected via a drive caddy to the external floppy drive connector of the Dock II. Under Windows XP, when I double click on the floppy drive icon to access the floppy disk, if there is no floppy disk in the drive, the floppy drive would spin for more than several seconds before giving the message that the disk is not formatted. Is this normal behaviour? Is there supposed to be a floppy disk driver under Windows XP for floppy drives connected to the external floppy drive connector?
I want to determine if there is a problem with the floppy drive.
