X20 Newbie asking for help about Boot problem

#1 Post by wilsonhs » Wed Jul 12, 2006 8:02 pm

Hi everyone, recently, i just got a retired X20 from my dad (which he claimed as working finly), and then entered freshly into the TP family. But When i came over it, i saw the windows98se which still bundling with the tp was seriously crushed and i decided to rebuild it. But, I dunt think its an easy job for me. As read, X's wont include any cd drive.
My dad gave me an Ricoh Pcmcia-SCSI cdrw drive, which of coze cannot boot, and I myself got an IDE-USB interchange cable with a LG(Goldstar) GCE-824DB CDRW which works fine. But problems come. I dunt even know how to set to boot from it. I updated the BIOS to 2.25, and came to boot option, there isnt and CDROM selection in removable device(did i name it correctly?). So, i selected CDROM below as booting device, but it seems take no effect on it, instead, still appearing windows98 starting file and hanged.
The question i would ask is, would X20 works on booting through IDE-USB with atapi cddrive? If yes, any one can teach me the full procedues to set it up ?(i would like to insert a WINXP OEM disc to boot it)
And i tried to copy the entire winxp disc into hdd to run but always hang. i dunt think its a good idea for me anymore= =""
For anyone can help me to get rid of the problem, i would like to reward him with a BIG THANK~lol
