DVD Region R-51-E

#1 Post by fuligin » Thu Jul 13, 2006 4:49 am

Hi everyone, I was just wondering what people are using to keep their DVD drives region free. I have used dvd region free sofware before but they say taht they dont support DVD-RAM, Matshita which comes with Thinkpad R51 e. I am using dvd x now but not too happy with it, so was wondering what everyone else is using. My biggest problem here is that dvd rental shops have various regions, so hard to keep chaning regions.
Thank you all for your help
PS: is there any way to disable reagion proteciton without software?

I use Slysoft AnyDVD. Seems to work fine.

I've also applied region free firmware patches to my drives whenever possible. But if you do that, make sure you're using the correct version for your drive. They might have to be ThinkPad specific.

I have the LG GSA-4080N. I don't think there's any firmware patches for the UJ-830S, and I hear Matshita drives don't work with those software drivers.

Your right FriC, there is no firmware update for my drive, ive been reading around and it seems its a really bad drive to have. Im trying to use DVD X player now, who caim it is compatabile with my drve, there is DVD Ghost from the same company which is a lighter solution, so i will try that out for now.

NS. I use my R51e to watch my movies, so I am really eager to find a solution for this because all regions are available here. The slysoft prog mentioned is a paid program, there is a free program like it called DVD43. DVD Ghost has a trail period so u need to reinstall every 21 days. Thats supposed to be the best solution, so ill test it. contact me with a private message if u need any help finding them.

I cant be the only person with this problem, as these computers dont come customizable, Anyone out there???

Let us know if anything works. Actually I've been wanting to change to a Matshushita drive cause I heard they are much better than the LG drives like what I have. But I'd rather be region free. :o

I already have visited RPC's site with no luck. I have been able to play several dvds with DVD X player, but as of yet, nothing has worked on my older LOR region1 DVD. There must be somthing out there, i cant be the only person that bought this model and am complaining about this.
Will keep ya updated Fric.
