Oh Man, that Monty Python film is one the funniest I have watched. With surreallistic, absurd situations only describable by the word 'Pythonesque' at so many levels, that film is one of the best pythons things did (Holy Grail notwithstanding).

"Romanes eunt domus? People called Romanes they go the house?" :D :D :D

Wait, you guys are talking about this right?

"People called Romanes they go the house?"

As someone who suffered through several years of Latin at the hands of tyrannical Nuns and Jesuits during my school years, John Cleese giving Graham Chapman a lesson in Latin grammar at swordpoint seldom fails to reduce me to tears of laughter.

The correct phrase is, of course, Romani ite domum!

I use names for the network identifier and for the various hard disk drives I have (internal and external). I seem to go through a lot of them - currently I have network IDs that are Scottish islands (Harris, Rona) and HDD names that are Russian dogs that went into space:

Laika
Albina
Lisichka
Belka
Strelka
Pchelka
Mushka
Krasavka
Chernushka
Zvezdochka
Veterok

At one time I once had a string if names I used for HDDs and my laptop IDs that were all mythical horses. The only piece of hardware left from that era still running/attached to my system is Embarr, and sadly that's due to go very soon....

I used to name my thinkpads after me and the numbers in the model ("David365", "David23"), but then I bought two T60s so I opted for Sun and Moon. My NAS is named Venus and my flash drive is Mercury.

I'll be getting an X60T very soon :D (I'm spending the weekend figuring out exactly which config) so I might replace the second T60's name so I can reuse 'moon'...

Names

#137 Post by schen » Wed Apr 18, 2007 2:41 pm

In the last few years, I've gone through computers too fast to name them so I just use the model as their network IDs. My desktop has a name that's been passed down from when I owned an IBM Aptiva S9C. They called them Stealth so that's what I used. So now, my current desktop is Stealth 5 since it's the fourth machine since the original.

Stealth 5- P233> PIII/733> PIII/933> P4/1.7> Athlon XP/2500

Does anyone name their cars? I've ownly named one: when I had a BMW M5, it's name was Heinz (for Heinz Guderian- father of the German Blitzkrieg).
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

I originaly called my t42p "Fireglumi" due to the fact that back then i was a bit obsessed with pokemons and charmander in german is glumanda.

So since the t42p had a fire gl 2 i simply named it "Fireglumi" (yeah sad i know). After i reformated it a year ago i renamed it to "Ancient force" since my screen name is ancient. And more recently after upgrading to Vista i called it "Ancient force vista"

Im currently thinking about names for my new t61p as soon as it is released. I have recently picked up the habbit of naming my machines after game characters (my server is named Spyro).
Not sure how to call the t61p yet tough.

Need to start thinking.

Regards Ancient.

I just refer to it as "L. Black"

L for lenovo, but most of my co-workers still think it is IBM since it has the ever confusing IBM Thinkpad still emblazened on the top and palm rest.

I don't have a anme for my R40 apart from "Thinkpad" on the network but I have been known to refer to it as "Darth" or "Darth Laptop" in the company of people with lighter coloured laptops.

My X20 however, is often called Mini-Me.

My computers all use the photography theme, as that is one of my hobbies.

For example:

Canon = Webserver
Konica = PC on Windows
Minolta = Same PC but on Linux

Kodak, Hasselblad, Leica, Nikon, Fuji have all been used for computers I have built up or reinstalled for close friends or family.

My laptop, a Thinkpad x30 is called Agfa :D :D :D

The x31 I had for over 3 years and the x61s I had for 2 weeks were both named smallfry, because so small compared to the T21s I had and my gf's T40.

My current Gateway ML6720 is just <username>-PC, but I love bigger screen, good keyboard, sturdiness, and lack of flex compared to the Acer I had, even though it is 1lb more.

Back when I used to warDrive a lot I would name my box "error" just in the off chance some idiot would think it was an actually error and dismiss it as nothing. Never thought it would really deter anybody but I had to name it something so why not?
