Greetings all.
I am creating a step-by-step installation of Debian/GNU linux on my T60. I know its already been done, but I'd like to create something that is as in-depth as possible, and gives students and end-users a more step-by-step approach beyond simply what works and what doesn't.

It is a WIP, so please don't "educate" me on html code or other aesthetics. I have noartistic skills to speak of and avoid web design almost as much as I avoid end-user support; I am painfully aware of the fact that I am an html retard by choice. You may experience bandwidth issues. I am a struggling start-up business and cost is a major concern. In the unlikely event that the world chooses to become interested in my firm, I'll find a way to outsource web publishing to those with the resources to supply it to the masses.
Installation begins on Monday, July 17, 2006.
Any and all contributions/comments are greatly appreciated. However, please do not flame me for bagging on Microsoft (famous last words). My opinions are evident in a few areas of the document; this is more for adding excitement to an otherwise dull subject than anything else, so don't take it personally.
Cheers,
djc

Heyyyy, that is a pretty good guide. Slim and trim. Don't be too hard on yourself about the HTML.
As for WGA. or WTF as I have taken to calling it, there have been a few threads here that take much the same stance as that guide does.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

DECIDED ON SUSE....
After discussions with some of my contractors and staff, and the fact that a ready guide for SUSE 10.1 on the Thinkpad T60 isn't out there yet, I decided to change distributions.
The other deciding factor was that after testing over the weekend, I discovered that EVERYTHING works in SUSE 10.1 with little or no kernel tweaking or module installs.
Regardless, here's the link change:
http://www.cryptosecurity.net/Suse_T60_DRAFT.htm
I will complete the Debian guide after the SUSE Guide. The Debian guide will not be as n00b-centric as the SUSE Guide.
Enjoy, and keep checking. Been quite a few years since I've authored an "Idiot's Guide" type document, so it took me a lot longer than I anticipated. I went ahead and posted the local draft with only screenshots just in case some people out there were comfortable enough to jump ahead.
Cheers,
djc
