Lenovo does alter it's configurations for schools, institutions, large enterprise, etc, however they still draw from the same parts list. There is no such thing as a Flexview, other than the ones I have already outlined.

Hard to say for other schools, but I have a 2637-UN6, and seeing as my University does custom order them, and happens to be UNC, I think this is a custom model number. It is fully supported on Lenovo's website. Of course it uses all of the standard parts.

Hi Matt and Jesus,

Even with custom built, it seems that Lenovo still gives you all the specs.

I went on lenovo.com and entered Jesus's modem number and got

Product: ThinkPad T60 2637-UN6 [change]

Operating system: All [change]

Original description: Based on 2007-C7U: T2500(2GHz), 1GB RAM, 100GB 5400rpm HD, 15in 1400x1050, 128MB ATI Radeon X1400, CDRW/DVDRW, 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 9c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

So Matt you should still get the model number and see what your school special built has under the hood and not rely on the sales person there.

Good luck Matt !

This is excellent advice as even in the case of Lenovo direct, unfortunately some of the sales reps are either untrained or uninformed. Then to make matters even more confusing, all to often they just make up an answer...

It came in yesterday! It is a 2007C4U.

I played with it last night for a little while and so far I am very happy with it. Seems like the right choice.

I followed the advice here and ordered the 1GB stick from newegg for $80 instead of having the store put in a second 512 stick.

And now it's about learning how back up all the junk that it comes with, make a clean Windows installation and a dual boot Linux. That means I sure will be back with more stupid questions ;-)

But then again, I already managed to extract the i386 folder to an image of a Windows install CD. Thanks to instructions I found here in the forum by the way!

Thanks again to everyone here.
