2623 DDU - a stinker

Believe someone who fell into the trap of ordering one of the so-called best sellers from the web site. This model is a stinker.

I advise anyone within the 30-day return frame to forego the $200 rebate and send it back for a newer model. If you can afford $3500, you can afford $3700, and your time is too valuable to waste.

Do you plan to qualify this in the near future or do you plan on leaving it vague?

I was not being vague. My post was addressed to someone choosing among different models without conducting a full-blown investigation. Many consumers, myself included, put more stock in a judgment based on personal experience than the expertise of gurus.

For those interested:

- Right out of the box, the 2623 DDU hung when first started
- After invoking restore factory settings, it again hung
- After installing a retail version of Windows, it worked intermittently

My advice to get a later model is based on my impression that the quality, performance and finish of the 2623 DDU as shipped is not worth the $200-400 savings.

Yeah, because you should forego an entire model because of one bad laptop?

I've had my 2623DDU for over 2 months now, and I've found it to be a fantastic laptop - no problems at all. I even resized the windows partition and put linux on it too, and it didn't blink and still works just fine.

SO basically, your assertion that the entire model is a 'stinker' because one laptop YOU got had problems is both arrogant and idiotic.

But hey, if someone wants to get their opinion of which laptop to buy from someone who didn't even test out a working model, but instead wants to [censored] about one that didn't (who obviously didn't even bother getting it replaced so he could actually test out that model), *shrug* they're just as foolish.

I've had a DDU since early April and haven't had any issues (other than things caused by me own ignorance

). It puzzles me how someone can make a blanket indictment of an entire model line based on one unit that may (or may not

) have had issues.

Pretty sure most people would not base buying a machine on one post, and one persons experience. Especially using the word "stinker".

Aside from some ThinkVantage software problems, mostly advanced power management, this has been a rock solid piece of hardware and has no issues actually running Windows and very high end modeling applications.

I'd go as far as to say that the 2623DDU is the best high end portable CAD/CAE box available.

It just need some attention paid to misbehaving system utilities that detract from the overall user experience.

Stinker couldn't be further from the truth.

I could not agree more...not only is it the best, it's the most reasonably priced. A near steal considering it's capabilities, build quality, and outstanding stability....

Ignoring the emotionally charged responses, I am glad some people had good luck with their purchase.

The real utility of this forum is to help people make a good decision when they buy a new computer. My experience is recent, and I stand by it.

For those who bought 2623DDU a month ago, the point is moot. For someone in the market today, or within the 30-day return period, they would do well to get a newer model.

It helps to put a certain minimum of thought into a first post and what ramifications it might have; otherwise, it is dangerously close to a cardinal rule here regarding trolling. Also, keep any impressions of who/what here is "emotionally charged" to yourself; this forum isn't meant for that and neither will be it intended for that henceforth. A single post on a random data point does little good.
If you want to help, list the problems and why you, in particular, found them to be as such. Not that it is a "stinker." Nobody said anything was amiss with your experience (stand by it or not), but it is an assumption one would have to draw from the OP with *no other info*.

I fail to see how the experiences you listed above have anything to do with the 'finish' of the 2623DDU.

Second, your experience with ONE 2623DDU can hardly be called representative of the entire 2623DDU line. I am not doubting that you experienced these problems, but unless you go through more than one 2623DDU with the SAME problem(s) you just got stuck with a bad sample. These things happen, and it happens not only with laptops of every brand, but with cars, refrigerators, and virtually anything else that's mass-produced.

Third, your 'advice to get a later model' is completely based on fallacious reasoning drawn on baseless conclusions. In other words, while people reading your posts should have sympathy for your bad experience, they should take your conclusions and recommendations with less than a grain of salt.

I have a 2623DDU, i've bumped the ram to 2GB, and it's simply awesome.

ultra stable, ultra performant, fantastic, runs Vista like a dream... it's my perfect laptop

The Lenovo web site does not allow you to choose a model, which is why I recommend calling a sales representative and asking specifically for the 2007.

I think you're missing the point. It's not helpful to anyone to condemn an entire model line based on a defective unit. You're drawing a strong conclusion from a single data point. That's one heckuva extrapolation.

Moreover, the other "data points" in this forum, ie, the overwhelming majority of other 2623 DDU owners report their glowing approval.

Feel free to report your individual experience, but think twice before then making a sweeping generalization based on your single experience, particularly when almost everyone else reports experiences to the contrary.

No one likes getting a defective unit, and everyone sympathizes. But try to be constructive, even when you vent.
