IBM R40 factory restore

#1 Post by gpranoto » Mon Jul 17, 2006 8:37 pm

Hi All,

I've got an IBM R40 Type 2722-AA2 that I'd like to restore to original
factory settings. The unit came with Win XP Pro. However, when I
press the blue "Access IBM" button to bring up the PreDesktop
environment, it doesnt seem to do anything. The system continues to
boot normally to the installed WinXP. Is there anything that I'm
missing?

Regards,
Gerd

First of all, i must say Welcome to forum.thinkpads.com

Second is: Did you press the access IBM blue button upon seeing the IBM logo? Did you do it fast enough?

The minute you see IBM logo appear, quickly press the blue button and after a while, the access IBM should appear. If there is a supervisor password for it, then type it in and click ok. when you come to the access IBM page, you should see some words and after clicking the box right at the bottom, you should see a light blue screen within the access IBM box. :-) Then you can choose the options and start the factory reset from there onwards.

Are you the original owner? If someone else had it, they could have skipped installing the hidden partition.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I pressed and held the Access IBM button once I see the IBM logo. The PreDesktop still wont appear. I'm not the original owner of the laptop, but have managed to restore the original factory when I got it. I dunno why the Access IBM button stopped working.

Gerd

First of all, did you get a non-IBM hard drive? Did it come with it?

Second, have you installed Lenovo's new Client Security Solution 7?

If you did, then that's the problem.

You are supposed to install Rapid & Restore from Lenovo.

That will also include Client Security Solution 7.

And it will enable the IBM button.

Hi,

Looks like the problem is that the IBM_SERVICE partition is gone. I did a factory restore about a year ago and seems like the hidden partition got wiped out. Is there another way to do a restore?

Gerd
