W2K SP4 - any caveats?

#1 Post by epbrown » Thu Aug 12, 2004 2:44 pm

I just downloaded this, as I'm setting up a new system and like to have all the updates available, just in case. I usually just install SP3 but I'm considering this one. Any reason I shouldn't? It will just be as a guinea pig anyway - the laptop will be my back-up unit, used in case anything happens to my X30.

if you want to experiment, then GO! Several have installed it with no problems. However, IBM recommends waiting until it is certified by them for the Thinkpad....

Thanks - the lab rat will be a Sony Picturebook, though. I'll wait on my X30.

From what I can tell, it breaks the IBM update connector.

I ran an update that gave me 4 IBM patches, then ran Win Update, and IBM Update Connector would no longer work.

Bummer - I want to have my TP download all the patches while I do soemthing else.

Service Pack 4 for Windows 2000 has been out for some time. It should work fine, but just to be sure:
(1) Do all Windows Updates and Patches to make sure Windows is up-to-date.
(2) Update all your IBM Drivers and Applications including Update Connector.

I have been using Service Pack 4 in a Windows 2000 Virtual Machine. It works fine, but I don't have Update Connector on that machine.
