What does IBM charge to renew their 3 year warranty on the T41? Is a T41 with a renewable 3 year warranty really worth it? Or would I be better of just getting a T42? I hear the T42 runs a little cooler.

T41 vs T42
I don't have a T41 or a T42. How much does it cost to renew an IBM 3 year warranty with a T41? I am trying to make a determination if it is financially worth it to buy a T41 or just go out and buy a T42
I don't have a laptop at all.

I would say go with a T42. The extra cpu cache really worth it.
Also, the battery manager in T42 is better. You can set the charging thread whereas in T41 you cannot. This makes a lot of difference.
I owned both T41 and T43. There is a significant difference in terms of performance.

T41 vs T42
This is really good information to know. May I ask how much the renewable 3 year warranty from IBM is on a T41? This information would probably make up my mind.

T42 vs T43 vs T41
I take it you would get a T42 over a T43 or a T41? A number of people have advised me that they think the T42 is a better computer -- less heat, longer battery life.

T41 vs T42
I don't have a T41 and don't know why anyone thinks I do. I am looking to buy a computer and was trying to get educated with respect to my options.
What is the "merom" based computer that you referred to you in your last post? I am leaning towards buying a used computer. I don't like the heat issues or short battery life associated with the T43 and duo core. T42 with 1.5ghz is more than fast enough for what I do.

how about the differance between t41p and t42p series. How differant are they? I have a t41 with a t42p board installed. i was thinking about buying a t41p to replace this one since it iwll have a better wireless card, and a few other features. I was wonder how much of a step back that would be.

T42 vs T41
I have decided to buy the T42. I don't think I really need the extended warranty. I would be a lot happier if I could find a T42 with 1.5ghz, but they don't seem to exist. Seems like a lot more of T41 with SXGA are on E-bay and only one T42 with SXGA is on there.
I found a college student in Massachusetts who is willing to sell me one for $700. He has a 60mb hard drive, but only a dvd-CDRW.
I will probably go that route unless I find something on e-bay.

There are T42s with 1.5GHz P-Ms; these are, however, based on Banias and every T42 above 1.5GHz are based off of Dothan.

Do yourself a favor and wait for Merom. Much faster, cooler, longer battery life; a -true- desktop replacement in thin & light form factor. Even if you don't want merom, snatch a T60 on rebate once Merom comes out. Interim technology like the first gen core duos always go for a steal since there's no reason to bother with them from a performance standpoint.

Well, not quite...then again, if the price range is around ~$800 and it is only to meet critical, baseline needs then a T42 would do just about as good as a T60.
