x41 tablet, slow startup time
x41 tablet, slow startup time
hi all,
I'm wondering if this is typical of the x41 tablet, but fresh out of the box with no extra installations, I still have a 7-8 minute startup time (the time it takes to load up everything including norton antivirus). My P3 tablet started up in 4-5 minutes. I only have 256 mb ram installed, but from what i've seen on the internet, that shouldn't affect start up times. When I install the 1 gb, I'll see if it loads up any faster. any advice?

I have a new X41 and it boots the same way..slow! Check out the Tablet PC forums. They have a long thread on the X41 that will definitely increase your X41 performance. It involves a reformat and removal of a bunch of bloatware, including IBM software. From what I gather, the source of the sluggishness is caused by of the software that the stock machine loads on startup.

Although most recommend reinstalling Windows and reloading only the relevant drivers and IBM software, I am happy with my opposite approach. It's also much quicker and safer.
Start with your slow-loading X41 and remove the software you don't need. Check what loads at startup and remove (make a note before you delete anything!) what you don't want.
Make sure you have at least 1GB of RAM and that it works. Blue screens and memory check failures are not features you should be aiming for
Hibernate rather than power down.
Many people hate Access Connections, but I love it. If you do use it, ensure (especially after updating or reinstalling any wireless card drivers) that the "Windows Zero Configuration" service is set to manual or disabled and isn't running. Make sure in AC that any "use wireless network to log on" stuff is not set.
