Upgraded Xga to Sxga+ having issues

#1 Post by pbkev20 » Tue Jul 18, 2006 4:23 pm

Ok I purchases a LCD PART NO. SAMSUNG LTN141P4- L01 SXGA+ and the correct lcd cable from ibm (cant think of the part number right now). I have a t40 2373-72u.

When i plug the new sxga lcd in and boot up I get a series of lights blinking on and off, no image and what soulds like its rebooting every 5-10 seconds(cant tell since no image is on the screen). When I unplug the lcd cable and use an external monitor it works fine. Anyone know what I can do, or whats causing this?
Thanks so much in advance.

I suspect the LCD cable you have is not compatible with that LCD panel. I know it's a lot of trouble to try the following -- especially if you have the top reassembled -- but if you can leave the LCD cable connected to the motherboard and disconnect it from the LCD panel, then you will know if the problem is the cable or something else. If not the cable, then it's a mismatch with the panel. My guess is that the panel does not go with that cable.

currently I have the cable connected to the motherboard but not into the lcd with the external monitor working. Once i plug the lcd in it doesnt work. Is it possible to maybe plug the cable in once i have the computer on? I wouldnt think so but may as well ask.

Do NOT plug in any cables (except USB) once the computer is on -- especially internal connectors. What you suggest will not work in any case. You have either a bad LCD panel (electrical short, etc.) or an pinout incompatibility between the LCD panel connector and the LCD cable.

Given that you know that you have the correct cable and that it is good, the only conclusion is that the LCD panel is the culprit.

If you got the lcd and tha cable from IBM demand them to be replaced.

The SXGA cable is 91P6787 and the LCD is 92P6760

Good luck!

Is there a difference between SXGA and SXGA+??

will the + work on a t40 that originally had a xga on it?

sxga is 1280x1024 and there do not exist any thinkpads with that resolution.

there is only xga which is 1024x786 and sxga+ which is 1400x1050

(I'll leave UXGA and the widescreen resolutions out for now)

edit: I forgot the plus myself now, but it`s edited in finally.
