Information about the Bluetooth/modem card in X31???

#1 Post by zapro » Thu Jul 20, 2006 5:55 pm

Hello!

I have bough a Medion fingerprint reader, it uses the same electronics as the "original" fingerprint reader in the new Lenovo thinkpads, so it *should* be possible to use it with IBM software, i will have to look at that.

I have made a hole in the palmrest for the reader, and it's mounted now, but i need an internal USB port for attaching it...

I am pretty sure, that the Bluetooth module is attached via USB, but i want to be 100% sure before buying the bluetooth module for pinning out the USB part of the 40-pin connector, the traces on the motherboard doesn't suggest a USB port seen from above..

Has anyone hacked this before, etc. attaching some kind of non-ibm usb device to this header ??

Could anyone of you X31 owners try to disable one of your USB hubs, and then see, if the bluetooth-module disappears ??

I hope someone can shed som light on this..

So the Medions use UPEK biometrics hardware? Good to know. :)

And I do think that the Bluetooth hardware is interfaced via the USB hub controller inside the X31 and X32. Not so sure what else you might need or modify to get the FPR to work, but you are already halfway there considering you created the right size cutout in the palmrest and mount the FPR. :D

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Sorry to disapoint you, it's not UPEK but AuthenTec Inc. AES2501, it's a nice compact 48-ball BGA package, just req. a Xtal and some passive electronics. http://www.authentec.com/docs/3069_Entr ... dBrief.pdf no wonder it's cheap.

The FP reader is this model: http://img.2dehands.nl/f/normal/13711303.jpg

- and according to http://perso.orange.fr/fingerchip/biome ... ks.htm#IBM the Lenovo 3000 N100 & V100 uses the exact same chip. Installing the reader with the IBM driver revealed that it IS the same. There is (Apparently) no EEPROM embedded in the reader cip, so it can't becustomised with special IBM name!
Just trying to figure out what extra IBM software i need to install to make the FP logon on the laptop. At the moment i use the "OmniPass" software that was delivered with the FP reader. it ok for signing on, but i can't find a SINGLE website it can remember the code for, so it's [censored].
